Next Generation Fellow Valeria Colunga addressed the Girl Up Leadership Summit this week as part of a session exploring the impact youth activists have had on global advocacy.
The session was opened by the President of the United Nations Foundation, Ambassador Elizabeth Cousens who said:
“Across the globe, youth activists are leading the charge and insisting that we recognize the diversity and interconnectedness of people and issues, providing an intersectional lens through which to view the world’s problems and opportunities. On gender equality, climate change, sexual and reproductive health and rights, racial justice, economic justice and gender-based violence, you are demanding accountability – challenging all of us to do and be better. ”
Valeria’s contribution drew on her experience promoting transparency and political awareness in Mexico. Her ongoing work in these areas is strengthening the work of the Next Generation Fellows as they prepare Our Future Agenda, a major report on the policy priorities of young people across the world due for publication this autumn.
