In Malawi’s cities, 79% of waste ends up in landfill or the natural environment, and 280,000 tons of solid waste is left uncollected.
The Clean Cities Project seeks to address this through focusing on recycling waste and transforming it into building materials, such as eco-bricks, charcoal briquettes, and organic fertilizer.
Run in tandem with this, the Clean Cities Project will coordinate campaigns and coaching for local communities to address social barriers to effective recycling with the goal of educating and empowering 10,000 local community members to practice recycling.
